FAQ

Applies to both Water Pitchers and Water Bottles

What are the benefits of using a filtered water pitcher?

A water pitcher provides a convenient and simple way to store and dispense water and can improve the taste and quality of tap water through filtration. It is cost-effective and eco-friendly compared to buying bottled water.

How does a water pitcher filter work?

A water pitcher filter typically uses activated carbon to reduce impurities, such as chlorine and organic compounds, from the water.  pHydrates filters use a proprietary Ionic-Adsorption Micro-Filtration system using the finest activated coconut carbon available, invented by Carl Palmer of Seychelle, a pioneer in water filtration.

How often should I replace the filter?

Our filters are good for 120 gallons with the water pitcher and 100 gallons with the water bottle, or about every 3-6 months, depending on your water consumption.

Are water pitcher filters effective in removing heavy metals and contaminants?

The effectiveness of a water pitcher filter in removing heavy metals and contaminants can vary and depends on the type of filter and contaminants present in the water.  Our pHydrates filtration products remove the following: Aesthetic Contaminants(offensive tastes, odors, silt, sediment, chlorine). Chemical Contaminants(toxic chemicals, trihalomethanes, PCBs, PCEs, PFOAs, detergents, pesticides [DDT]). Dissolved Solid Contaminants(heavy metals, aluminum, cadmium, chromium 6, mercury, arsenic, lead, and up to 90% of fluoride). Radiologic Contaminant(radon 222).

Can I use a water pitcher to filter hot water?

No, the filters are designed for use with cold or ambient temperature water only

Can I put salt water in my pitcher?

No, filters are NOT to be used with salt water.

Can I wash the filter?

Do NOT wash the filters. These must be removed before washing your water bottle or water pitcher.  The water filters should be flushed instead.  Please refer to flushing instructions on filter packaging or on website.

Is a water pitcher dishwasher safe?

Although many pitchers may claim to be dishwasher safe, we recommend hand washing your water bottle and pitcher. Make sure to remove the filter first, as filters are not to be washed (they are flushed instead).  Hand washing your product with a mild soap, warm water and soft sponge and allowing to air dry is less harsh compared to using a dishwasher, which uses high heat and strong detergents that can cause breakdown of materials.

How fast should my water filter through?

Expect a gentle stream or trickle and remember that a slow filtration process ensures contaminants are effectively removed.  Once you start to see an interruption in water flow we recommend flushing your filter.  Also, remember to change out your filter every 3-6 months, depending on water consumption.

Can I travel with my water pitcher?

Yes, water pitchers are portable and can be taken while traveling.

Is a water pitcher environmentally friendly?

Using a water pitcher and refilling it with tap water instead of buying bottled water is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

What is the difference between a water pitcher and a water dispenser?

A water pitcher is a container used for holding and pouring water, while a water dispenser is a machine that dispenses water from a larger storage tank.

Can a water pitcher filter remove fluoride?

Some water pitcher filters are designed to remove fluoride, but the effectiveness can vary and it's best to check with the manufacturer for specific information.  pHydrates filters can remove up to 90% of fluoride, depending on the amount of fluoride naturally present in the water.
